To produce a well-rounded portfolio, I intend to submit an exploratory model of the Heydar Aliyev Centre by Zaha Hadid. Demonstrating advanced knowledge of CAD / CAM process' and exploring form through abstraction and use of light. For my external brief I produced a client / sales model of a modular building. Demonstrating project management and communication with the client + architects. The Echo House introduces post design phase, (building completion) presentation models. Focusing heavily on the accurate representation of materials.

This blog post will outline the intended benchmarks of my 1:12 scale model of the Heydar Aliyev Centre (Azerbaijan) by Zaha Hadid. Exploring my thought process and decision making.

This image from 'Architectural Modelmaking' by Nick Dunn provides representation of the modelling process I intend to use in production of this project. Building CAD data from the technical drawings available. By learning to use grasshopper in conjunction with Rhino, I will be able to complete complex logistical tasks that are either inefficient or to complex for Rhino to handle. (Grasshopper will be discussed in detail in an upcoming blog post).

The Model itself aims to explore the use and manipulation of light + shadows through structure. Focusing on the panelling and how this forms the building, allowing for its free form flow. A well-known and celebrated signature of its designer (Zaha Hadid). With added detail emphasised in the panelling joints (construction lines) hinting at how the building + panelling was constructed.

A light box will be used to evenly diffuse light across the open spaces, casting shadows, helping the architect to understand the relationship between structure and space. I aim to produce base board cut outs that allow light to pass through particular areas. Helping to observe the effects of using light in different ways and how they impact the structural and spatial presentation.
