Research is key before producing any model. As the Modular building (designed by Eldridge London, and commissioned by Mike Gibson on their behalf), is not yet under construction it's not possible for me to visit the site before beginning to make it. However, from experience in industry. This is this is rarely practiced by architectural modelmakers so the use of CAD models, communication with the client, ability to read technical drawing and rendered images are key for understanding how the model should be constructed and presented.

The site pictured above is being built to replace an existing separate annexe dwelling from the manor house, built the 1970s which is underused and in a poor state of repair.

The clients would like to replace the existing structure with a new contemporary house where all accommodation is on a single level, and this would form a rental and/or ancillary family accommodation until finally becoming a future retirement home for them as the demands of maintaining the listed building become too onerous.

Eldridge London prepared three schemes for the clients including one which used a modular prototype system that their offices have been developing separately.

This system seems well suited to the sloping site as it raises the building on a screw piled foundation thereby mitigating against groundworks in the complex topography.

The planned form and varied orientations worked well around the woodland edge tree protection zones, and the raised aspect provides good views. The client preferred the modular version to the others that were presented, and the scheme was developed for planning approval. The scheme was approved in April 2018.

Eldidge have commissioned me to produce a model of the planned modular building utilising lime wood to be used as a sales model for their existing and prospective client/s, and is designed to be appropriated to varying terrains to meet client needs. An interchangeable roof is necessary to help visualise this. As agreed, a flat, gabled and pitched roof will be featured on the model, interchangeable between the flat one pictured above. The latter two being produced as options for the living modules pictured above on the left and right side of the main living area.
